Wake Up Calm and Confident: 12 Scriptures to Memorize When Anxiety Strikes at Night [Free Download]

Wake Up Calm & Confident: 12 Scriptures to Memorize When Anxiety Strikes at Night [Free Download] blog banner

I can’t sleep.
What time is it anyway? 2:58 a.m. My alarm is set for 6:00. I’m exhausted.

As I lay there, my mind races—thoughts bouncing from work to family to my never-ending to-do list. I can’t make it stop.

By 4:30 a.m., I begin to cry. How am I going to survive an eight-hour workday like this? I whisper, “Why me, Lord?” through quiet tears. On top of everything else, I know I’ll look puffy and tired all day. I feel like a mess.

The next thing I know, it’s 6:25 a.m. My alarm is blaring. Shoot! I overslept. How did I not hear it?

I race out the door in 20 minutes, already behind and overwhelmed—and that frantic start colored the whole day.

Maybe you’ve been there, too.
This scenario played out in my life more times than I can count. I lived in what I called a “permanently yucky mood,” and honestly, that wasn’t like me at all.

But one night, everything shifted.
I woke up in the middle of the night again—same anxious thoughts, same dread. But this time, something was different. I had recently been doing a study on negative self-talk and decided to try a new approach: I took deep, calming breaths and began silently repeating Bible verses I had memorized over the years.

Breathe in slowly for 3–5 seconds.
Breathe out truth.
Again and again.

And then—miraculously—I woke up, and it was morning. I had fallen back to sleep peacefully in just minutes.

That moment was a game-changer.
I felt grounded, rested, and for the first time in a long time—confident. Confident not in my own strength, but in God’s presence and His promises. It was like He whispered, “We’ve got this. Together.”

Since then, I’ve used this simple nighttime routine many times—and it still works. Memorizing Bible verses for confidence and peace has given me a new way to settle my mind, rest in God’s truth, and wake up ready to face the day.

And now, I want to share it with you.

Below are 12 powerful scriptures to help you find peace, release anxious thoughts, and to wake up calm and confidence. I encourage you to memorize them, reflect on them, and even use them as a part of your own bedtime routine.

Take a deep breath… and let’s begin.

Breathe In Peace, Breathe Out Scripture

Use these 12 powerful verses in your middle-of-the-night breathing practice to calm your heart and renew your mind. (Each of these are shortened in this post, but they are in their entirety in the download.)

1. Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Jesus is holding you. He’s waiting for you to come to Him so He can give you rest. Breathe in deeply. Breathe out this verse slowly. You may not even make it to the next one before you fall asleep.

2. Matthew 28:20

“…and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
You are never alone—not even in the still, heavy hours of the night. Whisper this verse with every breath and let His nearness bring you comfort and you will wake up calm and confident.

John 14:27
“My peace I give you… Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Scripture card

3. John 14:27

“My peace I give you… Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
His peace is unlike anything this world offers. Breathe it in. Let fear and anxiety melt away as you breathe it out. You are safe in Him.

4. 1 John 5:4–5

“Everyone born of God overcomes the world… only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”
You are an over-comer. Even now, in the dark. Speak this verse to remind yourself that your faith is your victory.

5. Proverbs 27:1

“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”
Let go of tomorrow’s worries. You don’t need to fix everything tonight. Breathe in now. Rest in now. That’s all He’s asking.

6. John 8:31

“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.”
When your thoughts are spinning, this verse brings you back to center. You belong to Him. You’re rooted in His truth. Let that steady you.

 2 Timothy 1:7
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
Scripture Card

7. 2 Timothy 1:7

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
You are not weak or powerless. God’s Spirit is alive in you. With every breath, receive His strength and release the fear to wake up calm and confident.

8. 2 Corinthians 3:17

“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
Freedom from anxiety. Freedom from the thoughts that won’t turn off. Speak this truth slowly and let the Spirit settle over you.

9. Titus 3:5–7

“He saved us… because of His mercy… so that we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.”
You don’t need to earn rest. You are already loved, already saved, already His. Breathe that truth in deeply.

Philippians 4:6–7
“Do not be anxious about anything… and the peace of God… will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Scripture Card

10. Philippians 4:6–7

“Do not be anxious about anything… and the peace of God… will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
This is your middle-of-the-night armor. God’s peace stands guard over your heart. Say it slowly, and let your mind quiet down.

11. Psalm 23:6

“Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life…”
Goodness and mercy are chasing after you—even now. To wake up calm and confident, let this verse wrap around your thoughts and gently carry you into rest.

12. Isaiah 41:10

“Do not fear… I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
He’s holding you. Right now. Breathe in His strength, breathe out your fear. You are upheld by the hand of God Himself.
