How to Stop Overthinking and Build God-Confidence: Even When You Feel Uncertain
Welcome back, Light Finder.
Last week, we tackled something most of us struggle with but don’t always talk about: second-guessing ourselves. (In case you missed it, here’s the link: How to Stop Second-Guessing Yourself in 3 Simple Steps (So You Can Move Forward with Confidence) Part 1
We shared three simple steps to help you stop the spiraling thoughts and start making clearer decisions rooted in faith and wisdom. If you haven’t read that post yet, you can catch up here.
Today, we’re continuing the conversation, but this time, we’re looking at how to follow through, overcome decision fatigue, and build real confidence, and that means the kind that doesn’t disappear when things feel uncertain!
Because let’s be honest: even when you know what to do, doing it is another thing altogether!
When Confidence Feels Out of Reach…
You’ve prayed. You’ve planned. You know the step in front of you.
But instead of taking it, you pause. You question. You wait just a little longer… and suddenly, days go by and you’re no closer to the life God is calling you to. That is pure procrastination, my friend, and the sad truth is that it undermines your confidence completely!
If that sounds familiar, you’re not lazy, flaky, or incapable. You’re likely facing a confidence wound, not a character flaw.
And the good news is that confidence can be built. You just have to learn how to stop overthinking. It can be done when you’re living intentionally.
But it’s not built by being perfect. It’s built by choosing faith over fear, again and again.
You may even ask yourself, why do I even want to go through all this? What’s so great about it, “I’m fine just the way I am.”
That may be true, but are you growing? Or are you stagnant? Do you want to grow into the kind of woman your future family, your friends, and even your younger self can look up to? What IS your “I can” story? Pause here and think about that for just a moment.

Step 4: Anchor Your Identity in God, Not in Your Performance
(By the way, we’re starting with 4, if you want the first 3, then go back to last week’s article.)
Confidence built on performance is fragile. It rises when things go well, and then it crumbles when they don’t.
But confidence built on God’s truth? That’s different.
“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion…” – Philippians 1:6
When you believe that God is working in you, even when things feel slow or messy, you can take action without fear of messing it up.
Here’s a journal prompt to help you anchor in truth:
“What would I do today if I trusted that God is already working through me?”

That question goes deep. Take a moment and sit with it. Pause right here and really think that question through. If I really and truly trust that God is already working through me, what would you do?
Confidence doesn’t mean having all the answers. It means you believe God is good, even if the outcome isn’t what you expected.
Step 5: Tame the Thought Spiral Before It Grows
This is a game-changer if you catch it early. We tend to assume that overthinking helps us prepare. In reality, it usually just paralyzes us. Watch out for this one or you’ll be in the middle of the spiral before you can hardly get it stopped.
A better approach? Name it. Replace it. Move anyway.
We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. – 2 Corinthians 10:5

Here’s how to use that practically:
- Pause and name the fear: “I’m afraid I’ll fail and look unqualified.”
- Replace it with truth: “God equips those He calls. He is my source.”
- Act anyway: Send the email. Submit the idea. Have the conversation.
You don’t have to wait until your fear is gone to move. Movement quiets fear, and clarity comes with action. Slow down and re-read that one again, as well. Clarity comes with action and that movement, well when you’re out there doing, then the fear dissipates. It is really cool. You’ll want to do this, even when you don’t feel like it. Take the action, and with it you will find clarity.
Step 6: Practice Daily Decisions to Build Follow-Through
Here’s a truth that might surprise you:
Big, bold confidence is built through small, consistent choices.
Every time you say, “I will do ___ today,” and actually do it, then and only then will you reinforce your belief in yourself.
Confidence isn’t a personality trait. No, it’s a muscle.
Start small:
- Choose your top 3 priorities for the day. (Yes, just 3.)
- Pray before each one.
- Do them, whether it is perfect or not, just do them.
- Celebrate the follow-through.
Over time, you’ll trust yourself more. And others will, too.
Step 7: Create a Confidence Routine That Grounds You
Want to stop doubting your decisions? Create a short daily rhythm that keeps your mind centered and your heart focused. It’s called living intentionally, ladies, and this matters!
Here’s a simple one to try:
- Morning prayer: “God, help me walk boldly in what You’ve shown me.”
- One Scripture to meditate on: Philippians 4:13, Psalm 37:5, or Joshua 1:9
- Quick decision journal: “What decision am I overthinking? What’s the next right step I can take?”
Repeat that rhythm. Tweak it to fit your season. Just start.
Before You Go: You’re More Capable Than You Think
The enemy wants you stuck. He wants you confused, frozen, and full of fear. That’s Satan’s whole reason for being here. Recruitment. Tell him to get out!
But God is calling you forward—with grace, with clarity, and with a purpose.
You don’t need all the answers. You need a next step and the courage to take it.
Confidence isn’t found in doing it all perfectly.
Confidence is found in trusting the One who already knows the way. My God. My Lord and Savior.
