A Step-by-Step Guide for Christian Women
Change Your Thinking, Transform Your Life
“Change your thinking, change your life.” You’ve probably heard this before. But if you’re like me, you may have wondered: What does that even mean? It’s a phrase that’s easy to say but hard to put into action.
My Story-Your Story?
“Every night in the shadows thinking back on Amarillo
He’d dream of better days and ask for faded love”
These lyrics from an old song called Ya’all Come Back Saloon by the Oak Ridge Boys reminds me of me. It reminds me of what was, what could have been, what is now. Songs tend to do that.
For a long time, I lived my life without much intention. I went to work, handled life as it came, and just reacted. The problem? I wasn’t thriving—I was barely surviving. Eventually, it all caught up with me.
I hit rock bottom. My six-year-old son and I ended up homeless, sleeping on my sister’s couch. I had a good job and a decent income, but my soon-to-be ex-husband had drained my savings—and my self-respect.
I remember asking myself: How did I get here? How could someone educated, intelligent, and capable fall into such a mess? I knew something had to change. But what? And more importantly, how?
The Power of Intentional Thinking
I realized the answer was in my thinking. If I didn’t change my mindset, I would end up in the same bad situations over and over again. I’d keep making the same mistakes, choosing the same kind of relationships, and living the same broken life.
But changing how you think is easier said than done. It can feel overwhelming—where do you even start?
That’s when I learned an important truth: to change your thinking, you need clarity. You have to pinpoint exactly what you want to change about your thoughts and why.
Questions to Clarify Your Focus
To change your thinking, start by asking yourself these questions:
- What do I dislike most about my current situation?
- How do I view money? Relationships? Success?
- Am I tired of feeling stuck or overwhelmed?
- What bad habits or negative thought patterns do I want to break?
Be honest with yourself. For example, if you’re single, ask yourself whether you truly want a relationship or if you’re comfortable focusing on yourself right now. If you feel exhausted or burned out, ask what’s causing it and what steps you can take to change it.
When you get clear about what needs to change, you can take intentional steps to renew your mind and create the life you truly desire.
Taking Action – Change Your Thinking
Changing your thinking doesn’t happen overnight—it requires dedication and daily effort. Here are some steps to get started:
- Commit to Personal Growth: Set aside time every day, even just 15 minutes, to focus on developing your mindset.
- Invest in Yourself: Jim Rohn famously said that 10% of your income should go toward personal development. It’s an investment in your future.
- Use Purposeful Guides: At MyIcanStory.store, we offer resources designed to help you reshape your thinking and live intentionally.
Scripture for Renewing Your Mind
The Bible reminds us that true transformation begins with renewing our minds:
- Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. – Romans 12:2
- For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. – Proverbs 23:7
- Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9

Is this going to be you: “Every night in the shadows thinking back on Amarillo
He’d dream of better days and ask for faded love”
Or do you want to look back on your life some day and say “This is me! I did this!”?
