Reveal Your Strength. An Unexpected Path from Labels to Living and Love
Four weeks ago, we talked about labels.
The ones we quietly wear.
The ones other people stick on us.
The ones we accept without even realizing we’ve done it.
“Introvert.”
“Too sensitive.”
“Millennial.”
“Gen Z.”
“Boomer.”
“Old-fashioned.”
“Hipster.”
“Bible thumper.”
“Shy.”
“Not leadership material.”
“Not the kind of person who does that.”
And here’s the thing about labels—they’re convenient. They give us a shortcut. A way to explain ourselves. A way to explain other people.
But they also give us a place to stop growing.
Two weeks ago, we shifted the conversation. We talked about paying attention. About noticing people. About the quiet, radical act of seeing the ones who feel invisible.
And today, I want to bring those two ideas together.
Because somewhere between the labels we wear and the people we notice…
That’s where strength is revealed.
The Strength We Talk Ourselves Out of
I saw a commercial the other day that stuck with me. A young woman said she doesn’t talk on the phone because it makes her anxious. So she just… doesn’t.
And the message underneath it was gentle and affirming:
That’s okay. You don’t have to.
But I found myself thinking—what happens next?
How do you grow a business if you can’t make the call?
How do you step into leadership if you avoid the conversation?
How do you build connection if your voice stays hidden?
Now, hear me—I’m not here to shame anyone. We all have fears. I have mine, too. We all have places where we’d rather stay comfortable than step forward.
But sometimes, the most loving thing we can do—for ourselves and for each other—is not to say, “It’s okay to stay here.”
Sometimes the most loving thing is to say, “There is more strength in you than you think.”

From Labels to Living
Labels can sound like this:
“I’m just not a people person.”
“I’m an introvert. That’s just how I am.”
“She’s Gen Z—she hates phone calls.”
“He’s a Boomer—he won’t understand.”
“They’re super religious—you know how they are.”
And before we know it, we’ve shrunk a whole human being into a single word.
Including ourselves.
But you are not a category.
You are not a generation.
You are not a stereotype.
You are a person made in the image of God—with depth, courage, creativity, and strength woven into you on purpose.
And sometimes, revealing that strength starts with something so small it almost feels silly.
Turning around in line and saying, “Hi.”
Making the call you’ve been putting off.
Sending the message that says, “I was thinking about you today.”
Praying out loud before a conversation instead of after it.
The Quiet Courage of Ten Seconds
I once heard someone say that courage often only takes about ten seconds.
Ten seconds to step forward.
Ten seconds to speak.
Ten seconds to choose not to hide.
And what if, before those ten seconds, you whispered a prayer?
“Jesus, walk into this moment with me.”
“God, give me the words.”
“Lord, help me see this person the way You see them.”
Because here’s what I’ve learned:
Strength doesn’t show up loud and flashy most of the time.
It shows up in small, faithful choices.

Strength That Grows in the Word
We don’t reveal strength by hyping ourselves up in the mirror.
We reveal it by staying close to the One who gives it.
When you spend time in the Word, something shifts.
When you pray throughout your day—not just in the quiet moments, but in the ordinary ones—your confidence starts to root itself somewhere deeper than personality or preference.
You begin to move not from fear, but from trust.
Pray before the phone call.
Pray before the hard conversation.
Pray before you speak to the stranger behind you in line.
Not because you need perfect words—but because you don’t walk into those moments alone.
The Strength That Lifts Others
Here’s the part that still humbles me:
When you tell someone, “You matter,” something changes in both of you.
When you notice someone, encourage someone, speak kindness into someone’s day—you’re not just revealing their worth.
You’re revealing your own strength.
And maybe one day, you’ll be a parent—or maybe you already are.
Maybe you’ll lead a team.
Maybe you’ll build something of your own.
And the courage you practice now becomes the courage your loved ones learn from later.

A Gentle Question to Sit With
What is one small moment this week where you could choose courage instead of comfort?
Not a big, dramatic leap.
Just ten seconds.
A call.
A conversation.
A prayer.
A kind word.
Because the strength you’re looking for isn’t something you have to go find.
It’s something God is already growing in you.
All you have to do is reveal it.
A Prayer for You This Week
Jesus,
For the one reading this who feels small, quiet, or unseen, remind them that You placed strength inside them on purpose.
Give them courage for the moments they’ve been avoiding.
Gentleness for the people they encounter.
And confidence that grows not from who they think they are—but from who You say they are.Help them reveal their strength in love, in kindness, and in faith.
Amen.
