“What Was I Thinking?” The Lies We Tell Ourselves Every Day—and How God’s Grace Changes Everything
Have you ever caught yourself saying something to yourself that you would never say to someone you love?
“What was I thinking?”
“Well, that was dumb.”
“Everyone else has it figured out… why can’t I?”
“Nobody ever calls me… what’s wrong with me?”
“I don’t know why I feel this way… I’m just lonely.”
Those thoughts don’t usually feel dramatic.
They just feel… familiar.
And that’s what makes them so powerful.
Because after a while, familiar starts to feel like truth.
Sometimes those thoughts are loudest at night.
You finally crawl into bed, the house is quiet, and your body is tired—but your mind isn’t.
Your brain starts replaying conversations, mistakes, awkward moments, things you wish you had said differently.
And before you know it, you’re staring at the ceiling thinking:
“Why did I say that?”
“What’s wrong with me?”
“Why can’t I just get it together?”
It happens so easily.
And it feels so personal… like those thoughts are simply you.
I used to believe that too.
When I First Realized Not Every Thought Is True
I remember a time when I didn’t understand how the enemy worked at all.
I thought every thought in my head was my own.
I wasn’t really reading my Bible much back then, so I didn’t know any different.
Then one day it clicked.
I realized, Oh… these thoughts aren’t truth. I’m being led astray.
I had always heard Satan was crafty, but I didn’t understand how subtle he is—how his lies can sound exactly like your own voice.
Once I understood that, everything began to change.
And it all started with grace… and learning to accept it.
Maybe you’ve never thought about it this way either.
More people experience this than you might think.

The Enemy’s Lies Sound Like Your Own Voice
This is what makes the enemy’s lies so effective.
They don’t sound dramatic.
They don’t sound evil.
They sound normal.
“I’m behind.”
“I always mess things up.”
“I’m not as strong as other people.”
“I’ll never really change.”
“What was I thinking?”
And when we hear those thoughts often enough, they begin to shape how we see ourselves.
That’s exactly what Scripture warns us about:
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” — John 10:10
Sometimes what gets stolen isn’t visible.
It’s peace.
It’s confidence.
It’s joy.
It’s hope.
And it often happens quietly… one thought at a time.
How to Tell the Difference Between the Enemy’s Lies and God’s Truth
This is one of the simplest filters I’ve ever learned:
Does this thought sound like Jesus?
Because Jesus corrects without shaming.
He leads without condemning.
He speaks truth—but He also gives hope.
So when a thought sounds harsh, hopeless, or defeating…
there’s a good chance it isn’t coming from Him.
And recognizing that is powerful.
Because once you see a lie for what it is… it loses its power.

Why So Many of Us Feel Mentally Exhausted
There are a few things that quietly wear us down:
Constant comparison
Endless scrolling
Loneliness we don’t talk about
Anxiety that never fully shuts off
Negative self-talk running in the background
And when your mind is tired, it’s hard to receive grace.
Not because grace isn’t available.
But because noise crowds it out.
Grace requires space.
Grace requires truth.
Grace requires stillness long enough to hear God again.
Accepting Grace Starts With One Small Step
Most people think change has to be dramatic.
But most real change starts small.
A pause.
A few minutes of quiet.
A moment to replace one lie with one truth.
That’s exactly why I created the Grace 3-Day Reset.
It’s not complicated.
It’s not overwhelming.
It’s simply a starting place to interrupt the lies, refocus your thoughts, and begin hearing truth again.
And that’s where confidence begins to grow—not from perfection, but from grace.

What Happens When You Begin Accepting Grace
This is something I’ve seen again and again.
When someone begins accepting grace:
Their thoughts begin to soften.
Their reactions slow.
Their hope starts returning.
Their confidence begins to rebuild.
And I stop saying to myself “What was I thinking?”
Life doesn’t suddenly become perfect.
But it begins to feel lighter. 🪶
And lighter is often the first sign that something is changing.
You Are Not the Only One Learning This
If you’ve ever felt lonely…
If you’ve ever felt behind…
If you’ve ever been hard on yourself…
You are not the only one.
There are many of us learning to notice grace, accept grace, and live in grace—one step at a time.
That’s what being a Light Finder really means.
Not having everything figured out.
Just learning to look for the light again and again.
A Step Forward Starts Today
At some point, every one of us reaches a moment where we think:
“I’m done feeling this way.”
“I’m done believing these lies.”
“I’m ready for something better.”
Maybe this is that moment for you.
Not next week.
Not someday.
Now.
The Grace 3-Day Reset isn’t complicated or time-consuming.
It’s simply a focused way to interrupt the lies, refocus your thoughts, and begin walking in truth again.
And sometimes that first step is the one that changes everything.
So if you’re ready to feel clearer, steadier, and stronger…
Start there.
You might be surprised how quickly things begin to shift.
