10 Cultural Myths Every Christian Woman Should Ignore
(…If You Want a Clearer Mind, Stronger Faith, and Healthier Relationships)
READ THIS — Before You Believe One More Piece of “Feel-Good” Advice…
Ready? Picture this:
You’re scrolling through Instagram, sipping coffee, and a cute post flashes by with pastel colors and flowy script:
“Follow your heart.”
The next one?
“Do what makes you happy.”
It sounds empowering… until you realize those sweet little sayings are starting to shape your life.
Here’s the truth:
Not all wisdom is Biblical wisdom.
In fact, many of the messages we’re bombarded with in today’s culture are not only not biblical—they’re harmful. They distract us from truth, sabotage our relationships, and leave us exhausted, chasing feelings instead of walking in faith.
So today, we’re calling out 10 of the most common myths society feeds us—and replacing them with timeless, soul-healing truth from God’s Word. You will really see and feel my passion come out on this article. I’ve been wanting to write it for a while now.
Let’s expose these lies together. WHY? Because these lies undermine our confidence which messes with our success! Here we go!
10 Cultural Myths that Undermine Our Confidence
Myth #1: “Do what makes you happy.”
This one is everywhere—painted on mugs, plastered across journals, and echoed in therapy memes.
But guess what?
It’s not in the Bible.
Jesus never said, “Just follow your bliss.” In fact, He said:
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” — Luke 9:23
Oof. That’s a far cry from do what feels good.
God does care about our joy, but joy isn’t the same as happiness. Happiness is fleeting and based on circumstances. Joy is rooted in Christ—and sometimes comes through sacrifice, not indulgence.
Ask any mom of toddlers, caregiver for an aging parent, or woman pursuing reconciliation in a messy relationship—doing the right thing isn’t always easy. But it is worth it.
Myth #2: “Being alone is better than being around people who don’t make you happy.”
We’ve been told to “cut out toxic people” and “protect our peace.” While boundaries are wise, total isolation is not. This is one of the biggest lies out there that the enemy has put into society. In her book Find Your People: Building Deep Community in a Lonely World by Jennie Allen (which I highly recommend), Ms. Allen speaks directly to this lie.
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” — Proverbs 27:17
We need people who challenge us, disagree with us, and help us grow.
Kari, a woman in our Bible study, once confided, “I stopped going to church for a season because I didn’t ‘feel fed.’ I stayed home, journaled, watched online… and slowly, my fire dimmed.”
When she returned, she realized what she’d been missing: accountability, fellowship, correction, and love.
God made us for community—even the uncomfortable parts.
Myth #3: “You don’t need anyone’s approval—just believe in yourself.”
I just want to roll my eyes at this one and let out some sort of expletive because whether we need it or not, we ALL crave approval. It’s written in our DNA. Self-reliance is applauded, but let’s be honest: we weren’t made to go it alone.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5
God designed us to be dependent on Him and interdependent with others. There’s strength in humility and wisdom in godly counsel.
The truth? It’s okay to need help, to ask questions, and to seek accountability. That’s not weakness—it’s faith in action.
(By the way, don’t even get me started on the phrase “I don’t need a man”….it is all over the Bible, we were never meant to go through life without a husband and live as one…a blessing if we embrace it.)
Myth #4: “Everyone else is doing it.”
The enemy loves this one. It’s been his play since Eden: “Did God really say…?”
Just because something is popular doesn’t make it right.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2

Even if “everyone” is chasing after career, image, hookup culture, or self-expression over obedience… we’re called to a different path.
Popularity is never the standard—holiness is.
Myth #5: “Your truth is what matters most.”
This sounds empowering… but it’s a lie dressed as liberation.
Truth is not relative. There is one Truth, and His name is Jesus. Period. Drop the mic.
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” — John 14:6
When we elevate our truth over God’s truth, we lose our way.
Feelings shift. Culture changes. But the Word of God stands firm.
Myth #6: “Spirituality is all the same. Just be a good person.”
Our culture loves a mix of beliefs—Jesus + crystals, faith + manifestation, yoga + Scripture verses.
But Christianity isn’t one flavor on a spiritual buffet. It’s exclusive in the most loving way. I will continue repeating this over and over: There is only ONE God and He is the ONLY living God. We may worship Him in different ways, but there is only one living God.
“You shall have no other gods before Me.” — Exodus 20:3
Dead gods don’t save. Feel-good vibes don’t heal. Only Jesus—crucified, risen, and alive—has the power to transform lives.
Myth #7: “You have to ‘find your tribe’ to thrive.”
I’m not saying don’t find your tribe here. What I’m saying is don’t exclude others just because they disagree with you and may not be in your inner circle.
Friendship matters. But the idea that your people must “vibe with your energy” is misleading.
Often, the best spiritual growth comes not from those who agree with us—but from those who challenge us.
True biblical community isn’t just built on compatibility. It’s forged in commitment, covenant, and Christ.
“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” — Hebrews 10:24
I must say, that I am guilty of this…horribly so, and I need to hear from others and enter into a give-and-take that is healthy. I know a lot of people that will completely cut you out of their life if you disagree with them. Don’t let this be you. Let that person who disagrees with you incite careful, and thoughtful deliberation and watch your horizons grow!
Myth #8: “Freedom means doing whatever you want.”
Real freedom isn’t the absence of restriction. It’s living under the rule of the right King. AND, here’s the kicker, freedom comes in and through Christ and the result is Joy. Pure Joy and Peace. That is real freedom.
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm… and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” — Galatians 5:1
I have to include 2 Scriptures here because this is one of my FAVORITES!!
“Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” – 2 Corinthians 3:17

Freedom in Christ is about being free from sin—not free to sin. It’s the power to choose what’s holy even when the world doesn’t get it.
Myth #9: “Your worth is based on what you do.”
Whether it’s career, motherhood, ministry, or influence, we’re pressured to produce and perform.
But you are not your productivity.
“While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
Before you ever accomplished a thing, God called you worthy. If you don’t believe me, take a few minutes and read Titus 3:4-17 and understand how God’s grace will change your life.
Your identity is not your resume. It’s your redemption.
Myth #10: “If it feels good, it must be right.”
Our culture glorifies feelings—emotions as guideposts. But feelings are not facts.
“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” — Jeremiah 17:9
We need more than vibes—we need truth, accountability, and the Holy Spirit to lead us. We need discipline, which will actually provide us with freedom and feeling good.
We think more of ourselves when we accomplish hard things, and always “doing what feels good” isn’t accomplishing hard things. In fact, it makes you feel worse.
Wrapping It Up: Trade the Lies for Truth
Culture is loud. Social media is relentless.
And yet, God’s Word cuts through the noise:
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32
God’s truth.

But you don’t have to stay stuck.

Happy afternoon from 🇪🇦
Grettings regards 🌸🌷🌸
Thanks so much, PK. Have a blessed afternoon.
*Phew!* You managed to hit two categories at once: 1) 100% true words, and 2) things most people are going to get very upset over.
The cliché is that the truth hurts, but it is needed. Well said on some not-easy-to-say topics!
–Scott
Yeah, Scott. I had a momentary thought that I might upset a few people, but Jesus made a lot of people uncomfortable. I guess it’s time I did as well. Thanks for your words. I appreciate you.
Great work! Amen!
