How to Overcome Feeling Stuck and Anxious: 5 Steps to Regain Confidence and Move Forward
“The tougher the setback, the better the comeback.” – Bernard Osei Annang
Do these wise words sound like something you need to hear right now?
Setbacks are inevitable, but when you feel stuck, overwhelmed, and anxious about how to move forward, it can seem impossible to break free.
Maybe you’ve found yourself in a situation where you feel trapped—like you’ve painted yourself into a corner with no way out. I’ve been there. I recently found myself in a situation I thought was hopeless, but through prayer, shifting my mindset, and taking action, I found a way forward.
The time has come to overcome feeling stuck and anxious. Read on to learn how you can move past this season of uncertainty and regain confidence.
5 Steps to Regain Confidence and Move Forward

1. Take Stock of How You Got Here
Feeling stuck doesn’t happen overnight.
Life has a way of nudging us with little warning signs, but we often don’t notice them until we feel completely trapped.
Take a step back and honestly assess how you got to this point. What decisions, habits, or fears have contributed to this feeling? Think carefully here. What exactly happened inside your mind?
Hindsight is 20/20, and while we can’t change the past, we can learn from it. If you recognize patterns that have led you here, you can take steps to avoid repeating them in the future.
This is where prayer and reflection are key. Journaling through these feelings with “Casting Cares No More Anxiety” Printable can help you identify where things took a turn and how to realign yourself with God’s plan.
2. Damage Control – Refuse to Stay Stuck
Is the setback affecting your peace, relationships, or future? If so, now is not the time to sit in fear and despair. No, seriously—this is not the time to huddle into a ball and hope things get better on their own. You can take control of the situation, even if the first steps are uncomfortable.
One of the biggest lies anxiety tells us is that there’s no way out. But the truth is, there is always a way forward. Start with small, intentional actions:
- Pray and surrender your worries to God.
- Seek wise counsel—talk to a trusted friend or mentor who will give you godly advice, not just sympathy.
- Set one small, achievable goal to start shifting your situation.
The key here is to take action. One step at a time, you can change your circumstances.
3. Accept Support and Let Go of Control
I know you like to handle things on your own. I do too. But doing everything alone can make setbacks feel even heavier. It’s okay to ask for help. As a matter of fact when you look around you will find that most people love and thrive on helping–just make sure you ask the right person.
Sometimes, pride keeps us from reaching out. Other times, fear of rejection or failure holds us back. But the Bible reminds us in 1 Peter 5:7, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” You are not meant to carry the weight of the world alone.
A few ways to let go and accept help:
- Be honest with God. Tell Him exactly how you’re feeling and ask for His guidance and for forgiveness for what you did and not following His word. He will forgive you. He loves you.
- Open up to someone you trust. Let them speak truth and encouragement into your situation. Make sure this is someone who WILL speak truth over you.
- Use tools that help you process your emotions. A guided journal like “Casting Cares No More Anxiety” Printable can help you pray through your struggles and find peace. It is truly an amazing devotional that will guide you through this process.
4. Plan for a Better Future-Give up feeling Stuck & Embrace the “I Can” Mindset
Now that you’ve taken stock of the situation, started taking action, and allowed support into your life, it’s time to plan for a better outcome. What needs to change so that you don’t end up in this situation again?
Ask yourself:
- What boundaries do I need to set?
- What mindsets can I change?
- What habits do I need to break or develop?
- How can I strengthen my faith so that I don’t default to fear next time?
Your setback does not define you, but how you respond to it does. You have the power, through Christ, to create a new future—one rooted in faith, not fear.

5. Act, Don’t React
A wise mentor once told me, “Fear makes us freeze, but faith moves us forward.”
While it will be completely natural to react, reacting out of fear keeps you stuck, but acting in faith propels you forward.
If you’re struggling to make decisions, remember that waiting on God doesn’t mean doing nothing—it means seeking Him, listening, and then taking action in His timing.
