Rewrite Your Story with God’s Vision, Not Just Your To-Do List

Rewrite Your Story with God’s Vision, Not Just Your To-Do List

We’ve all been stopped in our tracks by the news of Charlie Kirk’s passing. Many of us never met him. Some had only heard his name in passing. Yet here we are, grieving, crying, and reflecting on a life that has stirred something deep within us.

Why does this loss hit so hard? Because it forces us to pause. To look at the brevity of life. To realize that a life lived with conviction and vision leaves a ripple effect far beyond what we can see.

At Charlie’s funeral, one of the speakers said, “What matters most is not what you accomplish, but what you pass on.” That sentence lingers. It makes us ask:

🔵 What story am I writing with my life?
🔵 What vision am I following?
🔵 What legacy will I leave behind for my loved ones?

And maybe the biggest question of all:
🪙 Am I living God’s vision—or just checking boxes on my to-do list?

What matters most is not what you accomplish, but what you pass on. quote

The Bible puts it plainly:

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” – Proverbs 29:18

Vision isn’t about ambition, busyness, or impressing others. Vision is about direction. Without it, we drift. With it, we thrive.

But here’s the truth: you are worthy of living with God’s vision. You are not just a random life trying to make it through a chaotic world. You are deeply loved, chosen, and designed with intention.

The psalmist reminds us:
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” – Psalm 139:13–14

You were created with care. With love. With a purpose that goes beyond survival and schedules.

And let’s not forget—God proved how much He values you by sending His Son to die for you. That means your story matters. Your vision matters. You matter.

Let’s be honest—our lives often look like one endless checklist:

  • Grocery shopping
  • Work deadlines
  • Laundry
  • Church activities
  • Emails and phone calls

None of these things are bad. But if we’re not careful, we can mistake busyness for purpose.

A to-do list asks, “What do I need to get done today?”
But God’s vision asks, “Who am I becoming in Christ?”

Big difference.

One is about productivity. The other is about transformation.

So how do you shift from checklist living to vision-driven living? Here are some simple, hands-on steps to help you pause and align your life with God’s call.

1. Ask the Big Questions

Set aside 15 minutes with your journal and answer:

  • What legacy do I want to leave?
  • How do I want my loved ones to remember me?
  • What ripple effect do I want my life to have?

2. Write a One-Sentence Life Statement

Don’t overthink this. Just complete the sentence:
“My life will tell the story of ____________.”

That one line can help anchor you when distractions and busyness creep in.

3. Replace “To-Do” with “To-Be”

Next time you write your to-do list, swap one task with a “to-be” statement. For example:

  • Instead of “Finish laundry,” write “Be patient and gentle with my children.”
  • Instead of “Send emails,” write “Be intentional in encouraging a coworker.”

Character lasts longer than completed tasks.

Where there is no vision, the people perish Proverbs 29:18

4. Check the Fruit 🍇

Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.” (John 15:5)

Ask yourself: What fruit is my life producing? Stress? Worry? Frustration? Or love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control?

Your fruit reveals your story.

Here’s where I want to offer hope: you don’t have to figure this out on your own. God has already given us the blueprint for how to live a purposeful, fruitful life.
