Confused About What you Want? Who Else Wants to Discover their Life Vision?

5 Steps to Discovering Your Life Vision

Life Vision

Confused about what you want? Who else wants to discover their life vision? 5 steps to discovering your life vision.

Last year I met a guy. Relax. It’s not what you are thinking. This guy was a self improvement coach and we ALL need one no matter what level you are at but I digress. Last year I met a guy who changed my life in so many ways.

This guy (I’ll call him Matt) is highly trained in the workings of our minds and how our inspiration comes from God and we don’t even recognize Him. Even more than that, from the very first time Matt had me on the phone, he had me in tears because his words and even more than that his questions resonated so deeply with me.

Since that time my life has done a complete 180 degrees and I felt it was time to share these same secrets with you.

Matt has changed my life and if you will do these steps, your life will change as well.

Life Vision Discovery Step 1

Shut out everything that will be a distraction. Shut off your cell phone and don’t just put it on vibrate! It will distract you.

Locate your favorite place in your home that is completely away from any distractions and people. You will need complete and utter solitude.

Another option is to go a a wooded area, trail, path, or park or just someplace outside that you thoroughly enjoy. This will help to clear your mind and put you in a positive mood.

Step 2

Close your eyes and begin to truly feel and take in these feelings. This is really important. If money and time were no obstacles and if you could be anywhere in the whole world, where would that be? Anywhere at all.

Remember money does not matter and not having enough time does not matter. All you have to do right now and just completely absorb into where you would be.

Here are the questions you need to answer at this point. Who is with you? This could be someone you just met, your significant other, your best friend, your mother. Don’t put limitations on these questions. If you could have anyone in the world with you at this moment in time, who would it be?

Your next question involves your senses. What do you see and what are the noises you hear, and what do you smell? Now for your feelings. What do you feel and are you happy and completely satisfied and at peace?

Step 3 in Your Life Vision Discovery

Now that you are completely in this moment of seeing, hearing, smelling, and feeling ask yourself why. Why is this the movie scene that you came up with and what important factor are you missing?

Have you forgotten anything in this scene and why are all these things important to you and what could make this scene come alive for you?

Be truly inside of this full and complete vision so completely that you don’t even want to step out of it back into reality.

Step 4

Write out this whole and complete vision onto a piece of notebook paper and no you CANNOT use anything electronic. You must write this down in your own handwriting on a piece of paper that you can carry with you at all times.

You will look at this paper every morning and you will look at it in times of distress and pain. This is where you want to be and who you want to be with, so you must remember this is what you want. Play it out like a scene from a movie and get everything down onto this piece of paper.

You will carry this piece of paper with you in your wallet and have it available to pull out at any moment.

Step 5 Your Final Step and the Hardest

By far the hardest step in this process is discovering what is stopping you. I can tell you that for me it was the thoughts and feelings that I had picked up from my parents.

You see I never wanted to go against my parents and I kept thinking that if I named what was stopping me then I would be telling my parents they were wrong. And then realized something very profound for me.

I AM NOT MY PARENTS, and what was very true for them cannot be true for me. You see just because its not true for me does not mean they were wrong. It only means that I am not them, and my needs, wants, and thoughts are my own and don’t have anything to do with them.

And for me this was profound and it made me break down and cry because I kept thinking if I thought and felt differently from that I was dishonoring them in some way.

We are Like Our Parents in Many Ways BUT We are Not Them

For you, this may not be the case because you may have had parents that were not kind to you. My parents were for the most part wonderful parents and I realize I was very blessed.

I’m getting away from my point of Step 5 and that is your analysis of why you think the way you do and what is stopping you from going for that vision we just discovered. You see discovering what you really want isn’t as hard as we make it but we use that to stop us from forward motion.

The reason most of us do not move forward is some sort of fear. This could be fear of failure, in which case you’ll want to read my post on Failure Fear and Doubt A Trifecta for Discouragement.

Here is another thought on Fear. It is a clip from a movie called Coach Carter, and if you haven’t seen it I highly recommend it. Watch this 2.5 minute clip now as it might provide you with some insight.

Your Life Vision

The movie clip that you wrote out for your life vision is not your complete vision as you are probably thinking but what it does is it defines the things that you value and the people you love.

Discovering your life vision starts with this exercise. From here all you need to do is give yourself a break and let go of the paralysis and move forward towards that moment in time where you are where you discovered you wanted to be.

The whole purpose of this exercise is direction.

“The driver who cannot tear his eyes away from the wall as he spins out of control will meet that wall; the driver who looks down the track as he feels his tires break free will regain control of his vehicle.”

– Garth Stein

Are Your Focused on the Wall Or Down The Track of Life?

Where you spend your time and your thoughts is where you will be. Guard your thinking and the best way to do that is to keep your vision close at hand and read it daily and consistently.

Ask yourself are you focused on the wall? Or are you looking down the track toward your life?

Tell me about your life vision in the comments below. Who do you want to be, and what do you want for you life.

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:38
This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD.
Jeremiah 23:16
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11
Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.
Proverbs 29:18
