Ditch the Doubts: How to Stop Overthinking and Trust God’s Plan

Ditch the Doubts: How to Stop Overthinking and Trust God's Plan

Ditch the Doubts: How to Stop Overthinking and Trust God’s Plan written only for you.

Let’s be real: Overthinking is exhausting—and it’s stealing more from your life than you realize.

If you’ve ever found yourself replaying conversations, doubting your qualifications, or worrying whether you’re making the “right” move, this one’s for you. Because no matter how much success you’ve achieved, or how badly you want to step into the next season, you can’t fully walk into your purpose while second-guessing every step.

It simply is not possible, and wishing and hoping is NOT going to do it either.  I know I’ve tried the wishing and hoping plan myself.  Oh, and the “some-day” plan as well.  You must be intentional, and here’s an easy way to set your living intentionally plan into action today!  Right now in fact.

This July, I’m  kicking off a 12-week journey called Becoming Who God Says I Am, so you’ll definitely want to subscribe to this series so you don’t miss out. It’s all about shedding the labels the world tries to stick on us and embracing the truth of who God has created us to be.  And I gotta tell you, the labels are running rampant these days.  (I’ve gotten a little tired of them myself lately.)

I’m starting with your mindset because the way you think shapes the way you live.  This is proven and research-based.

Grace’s Story: Overthinking Almost Cost Her a Promotion

Here’s a story about one of my followers.  Grace had everything on paper: the degree, the experience, and the glowing performance reviews. But when her dream job opened up in her company, she didn’t apply….wait, what?

Why?

Because she overthought everything. She told herself:

  • “What if I’m not ready yet?”
  • “Someone else will probably be better.”
  • “I don’t want to seem too ambitious.”

She played small and watched someone with less experience take the role. Her inner voice was truly whispering, “you’re not good enough.  You will never be good enough, so why don’t you do everyone a favor and pass on it.”

Doubt kept Grace stuck. And she’s not alone.

Friend, I’m here to tell you that if you mark yourself down, the world will never raise your price. You have to believe what God says about you before others do.

Here’s the truth: You were made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27), and don’t forget Psalm 139:14 …I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  That means your confidence in who you are isn’t pride—it’s praise. When you show up fully, boldly, and faithfully, you’re honoring the One who created you.

This month on the blog, we’re focusing on mindset—because transformation begins in your thought life. Romans 12:2 reminds us to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Sometimes the overthinking is so loud you just need a hard stop.

So, are you ready?  Are you really ready to ditch the doubts, stop overthinking, and start walking confidently in who God made you to be?  Then, my friend, this series is for you.

Let’s start with how.

Here are 4 practical steps pulled and refreshed from our popular 2-part blog series on overthinking:

Overthinking often begins with one small thought: a what-if, a memory, or a fear. The longer you dwell, the deeper you spiral.

Try This: When you feel yourself starting to spiral, stop and say out loud: “This isn’t from God.” Then ask, “What is true?”

Example: “I’m not qualified” becomes “God has equipped me for every good work (Hebrews 13:21).”

Replaying the same fears on loop will never lead to peace. You’ve got to interrupt that cycle with truth.

Try This: Keep a list of Scripture-based affirmations handy. Speak them out loud when doubt creeps in.

Scripture Suggestion: “God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” – 2 Timothy 1:7
