Are you exactly where you want to be in life? It could be a lack of confidence that is holding you back. That’s why I wrote this article–so that you would have a checklist and could self-determine where you are in life and whether it is the lack of self-assurance that is holding you back.
Kari’s Story: From Doubt to Determination
Kari sat in her car, hands gripping the steering wheel, heart pounding. The email from her boss had been clear—she needed to step up and present the project herself. This terrified her, and she knew she just did not want to this at all, but she also knew in her heart that if she ever wanted more from her career and her life she had to step up. Now. Today. She realized that was what she did, in fact, truly want.
She wanted to be seen, heard, and valued. In fact it was woven into her.
The old Kari would have made an excuse, convinced someone else to do it. But today was different. Today, she whispered, “I can do this.”
As she walked into the meeting room, a strange thing happened—her coworkers listened. They nodded. They respected her ideas. And when she left that room, she felt something new: pride. Confidence had changed the game.
That moment wasn’t just about a presentation. It was about seeing herself differently. It was the beginning of her ‘I Can’ story.

Why Confidence Matters More Than You Think
Self-confidence isn’t just about standing tall and speaking clearly—it transforms everything. The way you think, the way others respond to you, and even the doors that open in your life. When you believe in yourself, you step into the life God designed for you.
The Bible is filled with stories of men and women who chose their inner strength over fear. Think about David, a shepherd boy who faced Goliath because he trusted God and himself. Or Deborah, who confidently led Israel into victory. Their belief in God gave them trust in their abilities—and it changed everything.
I know you’ve struggled with doubt, and at times felt like you weren’t enough, or held back because of your lack of faith in your abilities, but it’s time to embrace a different mindset. Here’s how confidence can impact every area of your life.
20 Ways Confidence Transforms Your Life
1. You Stop Second-Guessing Yourself & always re-thinking your thoughts and actions
Doubt steals joy. Think about that for a moment. I really does. Self-assuredness lets you make decisions without endless back-and-forth. It gets exhausting, and it could be the reason you wake up at 3:00 a.m. and can’t go back to sleep-you are rethinking things. James 1:6 reminds us, “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt.”

2. Others Take You More Seriously-Seen, Valued, & Heard
When you speak with conviction, people listen. Confidence earns respect at home, at work, and in friendships. Think about it, when you hear someone voice an opinion then look at you for validation, how seriously do you take that person? Or do you start thinking about your own opinion and on the matter and not necessarily trust what they say? Whereas, when someone speaks with conviction, you start saying to yourself, maybe I am not right since they seem so certain.
3. Your Career Soars
Confident employees get promotions, raises, and leadership roles. This is important to note. Who are the ones in at your workplace that are in positions of authority? Do they come off self-assured and confident? Think of Joseph—his faith and confidence led him from a prison cell to Pharaoh’s palace!
4. You Attract Better Relationships-SERIOUSLY! You do!
People are drawn to confidence. When you believe in yourself, you inspire trust and admiration in others. This, in turn draws people to you. People love to follow leaders who know what they are talking about and doing. Who do you follow? Who inspires you? I know I’m inspired by several pastors and inspirational women such as Amy Groeschel, Carrie Underwood, and others who inspire confidence in me.
5. Your Faith Deepens
Trusting God means trusting that He made you for a purpose. The more you read your bible and understand God’s love, the more confidence you have and peace. Jeremiah 17:7 says, “Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him.”
6. Fear Stops Controlling You
Instead of avoiding challenges, you face them head-on. Confidence helps you silence fear and step forward in faith. But this doesn’t happen overnight, and it is important to understand that this take intentional progress.
I know I had to actually speak to myself about this and spend a lot of intentional time in learning to develop this life skill. You’ve heard the adage “practice makes perfect.” This is very true when it comes to building your confidence. You have to practice stepping out of your comfort zone to adjust to it.

7. You Set and Achieve Bigger Goals
Confident people dream big. They believe their goals are possible—and they act accordingly. What big hairy audacious goal do you have? Write it down and tape it to your mirror as a reminder to live intentionally.
8. You’re More Assertive
No more letting people walk over you. Confidence helps you say “no” when necessary and “yes” to the right opportunities. When someone dresses you down and makes you feel less than, do you later wished you would have said or done something different? The more confident you are, the more able to stand up for yourself and others you are…not letting the bullies win! But, letting you and your loved ones win.
9. Your Health Improves
Confidence leads to better self-care. You believe you’re worth the effort, so you exercise, eat well, and rest properly. And, believe it or not, it leads to weight loss if that is in fact something you aspire to. You have more energy and your inner peace shines through!
10. You Find More Joy in Life
Confidence helps you embrace life fully, appreciating the little things instead of worrying about what others think. Look out at the sky in the evening and appreciate the sunset. Go take a walk and stop and actually look at a tree. These are the things that surprisingly bring joy. God’s gift to us all is nature.
11. You Handle Criticism Better
Instead of crumbling, you learn and grow. Think about Moses—he doubted his speaking skills, but with confidence in God, he led a nation.
12. Your Family Benefits
When you walk in confidence, your children, spouse, and loved ones feel that security too. This is HUGE! The ripple effect is profound. Do you have a daughter who dates bums and you wished she had more confidence to find the right guy? This is just one example, or maybe you’re young and have been looking for a great guy and want to get married, but you are a “bum-magnet”, this will stop and you’ll be more able to discern a truly lovely gentleman who will honor you once you gain confidence. Proverbs 14:26 says, “Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.”
13. You Become More Generous
When you’re confident in who you are, you don’t feel the need to hoard time, resources, or love. You give freely. And as we all know, what you put out into the world comes back to you 10x. So give love freely and watch love come back to you.
14. You Bounce Back from Setbacks Faster
Confident people don’t let failure define them. They learn, adjust, and try again. And, here is when you really notice your sleep patterns change. You are finally able to sleep through the night and not spend so much times worrying about what you did or said.
15. You See Yourself as God Sees You
Confidence isn’t arrogance—it’s aligning your self-view with God’s view. I love this so much! The ability to see yourself as God sees you! Inspiring! Psalm 139:14 reminds us, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
16. You Speak Up for Yourself and Others
Stand tall. Stand up. Be seen heard and valued with confidence. Like Esther, who boldly approached the king to save her people, confidence helps you stand for what’s right.
17. You Experience Greater Financial Success
Confidence impacts negotiations, investment decisions, and overall financial stability. You know what you want, and you go for it. Then you have a wonderful portfolio that gives you freedom to live the way you want.
18. You Gain More Opportunities
People offer chances to those who believe in themselves. Whether it’s a business deal, leadership position, or friendship, confidence invites opportunity. It has been wild for me when I first saw this. Ever feel like you’re on the whipping block and life just keeps handing you lemons. You find yourself bracing for the next hit?
This stops when you get confidence. You start looking for the next opportunity, and finding it! Just like Kari stepping out of her comfort zone, you find new opportunities to grow in stamina and grace.
19. You Make a Bigger Impact
When you believe in yourself, you inspire others. Like Abraham, who stepped out in faith, your confidence can set a legacy. Gosh, just imagine being more like Abraham! How profound!
20. You Write a Better ‘I Can’ Story
Confidence is the foundation of a life well-lived. Every step you take in faith and belief shapes your personal story of growth, success, and purpose. You, in essence say “I Can” instead of no. I can’t all the time. You trust yourself and just imagine what your story becomes!
Your Next Step: A Confidence Challenge
Take a moment right now to reflect:
- Write down all the areas in your life where you could be stepping up but aren’t.
- What’s holding you back? Fear? Doubt? Uncertainty?
- What would change if you decided to take action today?
- Pray for boldness (like Joshua, who was told, “Be strong and courageous”—Joshua 1:9).
- Speak truth over yourself (affirmations based on scripture).
- Take small courageous actions every day.
