My I Can Be Happy Story

It all started with negative self talk. You know what I mean. Those thoughts that say to you “you’re not smart enough”, or “you’re not as good as so and so and you never will be.” What I want to know is who died and made you king of everybody else’s thoughts about you?

How do you know what everyone else is thinking? Truly? Gee willikers! It took me for – EVER to figure this out and it didn’t happen overnight, but it did come like a thief in the night and steal some of my negative self talk.

What happened was, I wanted more. I wanted more than I was getting in life. I was excuse my language, but tired of being in a permanently pissy mood!

I Was Completely Fed Up with Being In a Bad Mood!

Everywhere I looked and everybody I ran into made me mad. Why? Why? Why? At the moment, I did not care why I was constantly mad and unhappy, all I cared about was that I was and that was just not me, and I was tired of it.

You see I was tired of coming home from work everyday almost in tears because of what someone said or did. I realized it was my reaction to them that was the problem, but I wanted it to stop so I did a drastic thing and quit my job!

Never had I ever quit my job without having another job lined up, but you see desperate times called for desperate measures and I was desperate. I knew that I would keep putting off looking for a job as long as I had one, and I also knew that I would continue being in a bad mood if I didn’t.

Would You Have Done That?

I had to take stock of my life and who I was and who I wanted to be. Obviously this job didn’t fit my needs or I wouldn’t go home every day almost in tears. So I developed a 5-step process and worked my way through it to get myself to the peace of mind blissful stage of joyous happiness!

Here are the 5 Steps I took to Find Happiness, Peace, and Joy

1. Stop Something Major

In this case, I stopped my job. Yours could be a bad relationship or talking to your sister everyday, or it could be doing something you’ve always done just because you’ve always done it, but not necessarily know why you do it every day.

You have to start this off with a big BANG! I’m not telling you to quit your job like I did. I am saying stop something major that does not bring you happiness. You get to decide what the big “something” is…just make sure it is something that causes you distress.

2. Replace that “Something” Unhappy With Something Happy

This is where I enrolled in a personal development program, so not only did I quit my job, I also spent $695 on a program that has made all the difference in my life! It was literally life-changing, and well-worth the money. I was tenacious about following the program and I knew I needed to change.

Besides I spent all that money, so I was going to damn well make it through the program and learn something!!!

3. Do Something That Brings You a HUGE Belly Laugh

I don’t mean watch a funny show on TV, I mean go do something fun, fun, FUN!!! And it HAS to be meaningful and memorable!

Maybe you love roller coasters but haven’t gotten a chance to go ride the new one at the theme park, or maybe you’ve never gone ziplining but always wanted to, or white water rafting.

It can be simpler, get all your friends together from high school, or college, or your previous employer, whatever and go do a huge gab session and party. Remember when you were young and free to be you, and just be!

4. Now that You are Refreshed and Ready Comes the Big work…Begin to Guard Your EVERY Thought

This is hard work since you have thousands of thoughts a day, but be cognizant of it. Write this down on several pieces of paper and tape them up throughout the house from your refrigerator to your bedroom to your bathroom.

GUARD YOUR EVERY THOUGHT!!

Protect it. You are NOT to allow any negativity to enter into your thoughts. None at all. Try this for just an hour and see how you do and then two hours and so on until your can get practiced enough to make this conscience.

Who says you are not as good as so-so? That’s Satan whispering in your ear and it is not true!! God created you in His likeness to have an abundant and bountiful life! You deserve it!

Yeah, maybe you’re not the basketball player Michael Jordan is, but maybe that’s because you haven’t practiced for 6+ hours each day for 20 years, so you’re not going to be. Don’t compare yourself to others. This brings me to step 5, which is freeing!

5. Make THE Decision to Be Happy

Making a decision such as this is so freeing. You just can’t even imagine! Once you make this decision, then write it down on that piece of paper you stuck up reminding you to guard your thoughts. Date it in black magic marker and make your affirmation.

I Have Decided TODAY and From This Moment Forward that I AM Happy.

Date it and write it in permanent marker that you are right now happy!

Simple but Not Easy

That’s it! That was the 5 steps I took to achieve a joyous and happy life, and you know what? That was several years ago, and I smile as I write this because it was a hard-fought battle, but one I walked away from smiling all the way.

Oh, and here is your bonus tip on being happy: STOP LISTENING TO ANY AND ALL NEWS MEDIA OUTLETS!! I don’t care what political side you lean on, they both take everything to the extreme and totally mess with your peace of mind. They are designed to do that to keep you coming back for more.

Anyway, like I said this whole process is not necessarily easy and some days you have to take a hard look at yourself and your thoughts, but is is very, very simple. We make life pretty hard sometimes and we really don’t need to.
